Community spirit is our strength.
Howdy folks!
Well, this has been rather fast hasn't it?! It's less than 48 hours after Mary Portas suggested we put in a bid, and we have had a phenomenal response from you all. It is extremely heart-warming to hear the admiration and love you all have for our beautiful town. Warwick is a great town and it clearly has some great people within it. From this very blog we have made the District and County Council stand up and listen. The bid (which is nothing but energy at the moment) has been discussed at several council meetings this week, without our intervention, and has been met with great enthusiasm. I really believe that everyone really wants to put in a serious bid for the pilot scheme.
I was very honoured to receive a call from the Mayor Trudy Offer this evening. Trudy is a great suppporter of Warwick Tweetup and indeed contacted us first through Twitter, so is very in touch with modern Warwick too. The Mayor is backing the bid and is already spreading the word through her various channels and contacts. She plans to put the word out about Portas Pilots at Tuesday's civic dinner, and we are very grateful to her for this.
We have also had emails from other important members of the Warwick community, and will divulge more as soon as we can. On Tuesday we have a meeting with Warwick County Council and we need YOU! We plan to put the ideas and suggestions posted on the first blog forward to a committee in a brainstorming session. We are currently selecting the committee.
- Are you passionate about Warwick?
- Do you have ideas, but more importantly energy and drive to get involved?
Then please come forward. Email us at WarwickTweetup@gmail.com with your details.
We have a real chance to make something amazing happen here. We're aware that Warwick was unsuccessful in the past in a similar bid, but I can tell you now - not on my watch! Let's show the rest of Warwickshire, and indeed the UK, just how much we love this town!
Time is our enemy now. March 30th is the closing date for the application and everyone involved is aware of this.
- Please share this blog with everyone you know.
- Please tell your friends, your neighbours and your colleagues.
- Please stand up for Warwick; it's a beautiful town failing to fulfil its potential.
Don't stand by and watch. Stand up and support it!
More news as we get it. Please continue to comment on the first post on this blog. We've had 1200 views so far. INCREDIBLE!!
Much respect and admiration to you all.
Todd.
